Ron Kusse Bamboo Fly Rods


Standard........

Ron Kusse standard rods are available in 6-8 foot, in two and three piece, with line weights of 1 thru 8. These rods are a light color cane with mirror tips, nickel silver slide band reel seats with a variety of woods: tiger, maple, black walnut, South American cedar, Philippine mahogany and all cork.  The cigar shape grips are delicate and graceful.  These rods are a medium fast dry fly action.  They will range in weight from less than 1 ounce to 4 1/4 ounces. Hardware may be left bright or blued in a deep rich blue black.  The silk winds are a mellow transparent gold with a rich brown at the ferrules with purple and beige accent.  All rods are two tip and come with a poplin bag with brass aluminum case and Ron Kusse gold and black logo lapel or hat badge.

Catskill........

The Catskill rods are similar to rods that Ron made when he was Vice President of H..L. Leonard Rod Co. They are delicate in appearance, light in weight, yet are superior casting rods.  They are available in all the same sizes as the standard rods.  The Catskill Series has a light color cane and is wound with a special beige transparent silk.  There is a small accent of red at the winding check and at the tips. The Special Catskill stripping guide that Ron has many of, is no longer being manufactured.  The rest of the guides are black.  All Catskill rods come with a butternut reel seat, special bright nickel silver hardware and a delicate cigar shape Catskill grip. All rods are two tip and come  with a poplin bag with
brass ended aluminum case and Ron Kusse gold and black logo lapel or hat badge.

Catskill Special.........

The Catskill Special is basically the same as the Catskill except the rod shaft is open flamed to a rich brown with amber highlights at the nodes.  They are wound the same as the Catskill, except there is a red tipping at the winds.  All hardware is blued to a rich blue black.  All rods are two tip and come with a poplin bag with brass ended aluminum case and Ron Kusse gold and black logo lapel or hat badge.

Black Troll.........

The Black Troll is available in all the same sizes as the standard rod.  The Black Troll is reminiscent of the hunt series Ron made while he was at H..L.Leonard Rod Co.  These are crisp action darkly flamed rods, darker than the hunt rods.  All fittings are blued a rich blue black.  Reel seats are generally dark wood, walnut, 100 year old cherry and some special dark heavily figured maple, they are wound a rich blood red with black guides.  These rods are very striking and beautiful.  all rods are two tip and come with a poplin bag with brass ended aluminum case and Ron Kusse gold and black logo lapel or hat badge.

Beaverkill Special..........

Beaverkill Special is available in all the same sizes as the standard rod.  The Beaverkill Special is a dark flamed rod with amber nodes with a crisp dry fly action.  Ron first made this model forty years ago for Harry Darbee, famous Catskill fly tier and author of books on the Catskill Mountains.  These rods feature rich brown windings, red and black accents, all
hardware and fittings blued a rich blue black, and feature walnut reel seats.  A unique and handsome dark rod with superb accuracy.  All rods are two tip and come with a poplin bag with brass ended aluminum case and Ron Kusse gold and black logo lapel or hat badge.

Quad Rods -  Light and Flamed.........

Quad rods or four strip rods are somewhat different in characteristics than hex angle or six strip rods. Hiram Leonard, being an engineer, made his first rods, quads or four strip.  He felt these were the best. From an engineering stand point they are more efficient than 6 strip rods and most rod makers have been making 6 strip rods ever since.  Four strip rods
are absolutely superb casting instruments with great reserve power and absolute pinpoint accuracy.  With their broad flat they require special care in varnishing as any imperfection will show up.  Ron makes these rods both in light color cane and flamed cane. They are available in 7 foot, 3 and 4 weight line; 7 1/2 foot, 4 and 5 weight line, and 8 foot, 5 and 6 weight line.  The light Quad Rods are wound a clear Catskill color with fine red tipping.  They feature an agate stripping guide and silver fittings.  The reel seats are Tiger Maple.  The flamed Quad Rods are wound Beaverkill brown with red and brown accents with all hardware and guides blue black and Highly Figured Walnut reel seats.  Quad rods are somewhat in limited supply, but worth waiting for. All rods are two tip and come with a poplin bag and brass ended aluminum case and Ron Kusse gold and black logo lapel and hat badge.
