ALASKAN SCRIM SHAW
Ivory that is mined in Alaska is used to make this beautiful Scrim Shaw Jewelry. It is
made of Wooly Mammoths and Walrus tusks. These animals have died
naturally and the tusks are dug from the ground. Eskimos then cut, grind and
polish the pieces by hand into a high luster. They carefully engrave the
designs of the Alaskan fish by hand. Then they use paint to fill in the
etchings to make these beautiful designs. They have made the designs of Salmon
and Trout for Earrings and Pins. I asked them to make Bass and Shad for the
North East Region. And as you can see they have done it beautifully!!
