Wm. Harms Custom Rod & Gun

The Details ...

All rods are tapered to my own designs, generally characterized as "progressive" action. My rods are flamed to create a lightly mottled effect, and built with a swelled-butt. Reel-seat hardware includes decorative nickel silver butt-cap, sliding band, and cork-check. Buyers have a choice of various wrapping colors and may select from several species of highly figured wood for the reel seat. All rods are furnished with the following standard features:

  • Inscription of owner's name on rod (deleted if preferred)
  • Fly-keeper, carboloy stripping guide, tip-top and snake guides (bright or blued)
  • Nickel silver butt-cap, sliding band, and cork-check (bright or blued)
  • Nickel silver, "Swiss-style" ferrule (bright or blued)
  • Cork grip turned in a "torpedo" shape
  • Mortised reel seat selected from the following: burls in box elder, maple, eucalyptus, redwood, cherry or walnut; spalted elm, ash or maple; tiger or bird's-eye maple
  • Aluminum rod case with brass cap and bottom; cotton rod bag
  • Silk wrapping colors as follows: tan, rush, "brownish" gold; light, medium, or dark brown; light, medium, or dark red; olive; light medium or dark green

Disclaimer ...

Please note in making your selection that the exact line-weight appropriate to a rod cannot be guaranteed. All rods are designed for weight-forward lines in accordance with my own casting style (medium line speed and medium-tight loop). The match between line and rod cannot be a matter of complete predictability, as each person's sense of timing, rhythm and line-speed is necessarily idiosyncratic. It is possible, for instance, that changing either up or down to a double-tapered line may suit your own style of casting better.
